Why Color Contrast Matters
Good color contrast is a cornerstone of accessible web design. It ensures that users with visual impairments, such as color blindness or low vision, can read and interact with your content just as easily as everyone else.
Understanding WCAG Standards
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) provide a universal standard for accessibility. The contrast ratios are divided into two main levels:
- Level AA: The minimum standard. For normal text, it requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. This is a good target for most web content.
- Level AAA: The enhanced standard. It requires a much higher contrast ratio of 7:1 for normal text, making it readable for a wider range of users.
